Wednesday Wellness- What’s Your Personal “slogan”?

Call it a mantra, values statement, or personal slogan: What words do you live by? 

During a challenging time of life, maybe the advice of a friend or passage from a favorite text has helped uncover strength or find patience to deal with a situation. After having a baby, I remember my Mom telling me: “When you feel like crying, take a nap.” These words of wisdom are STILL applicable, even though that baby is now seven years old…

A personal mantra, however, might pertain more to how you want to BE or FEEL when difficulty arises. “I am patient and wise” might help us through a misunderstanding, or “I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to” could boost confidence for a challenging project. That’s because powerful and true words can lift us up, and can be heightened by the people who give them to us. A mantra, simply a statement said over and over to eliminate distractions, can actually help a person focus less on actual challenges and more on cultivating what is needed to overcome them.

So this week, I encourage you to find a mantra or slogan to apply to your life or difficult situation. The power of those words can diminish the sense of challenge, leaving more focus on the positive and the strength to press on.
