Wednesday Wellness: Get outside for your Health

By Christopher | In Wellness | on June 4, 2019

Committing to a health lifestyle can look a lot of different ways, and we want to help people with that commitment here at the Peak Clubs. More and more people are understanding the benefits of not only exercising, but the positive effects of just being outside for our health.

“We know that activity, especially outdoor activity, is good for us, but what is most staggering is how good it is for our brains. According to a study by the European Society of Cardiology, those who take a brisk walk daily for at least 25 minutes could be adding at least three years to their lives. This simple practice can help repair DNA and reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and breast or colon cancer.”

Based on a recent article called “Prescribing Nature”, here are a few tips for experiencing the life-lengthening, brain-strengthening benefits of being outside. Read the full article here.

  • Take small steps. Spending more time outside doesn’t mean making time every weekend for a major camping trip or event.
    • Take a lunch-time walk.
    • Start an outdoor garden or join a community garden.
    • Join an outdoors Meetup.
    • Get a pet! Nothing motivates a walk like an energetic puppy. (Just make sure you are ready to be a responsible pet owner 🙂 )
  • Can’t get outside? Bring the outside IN.
    • Keep more plants.
    • Start an INDOOR garden near a window: Herbs are an easy way to get started in your kitchen.
    • Get inspired by reading more outside stories, memoirs or travel accounts.

In beautiful Central Montana, the possibilities are many. If you need help finding your OUTDOOR fit, contact us at The Peak for ideas on building your personal wellness- indoors or out.
