Wednesday Wellness: Are you the culprit?

By Audra Bergman | In Wellness | on January 9, 2019

I’m going to let you in on a big secret about The Peak that I’ve discovered during the past year of working here full-time:

There is SO much junk food at The Peak.

Those of us that are here full-time are CONSTANTLY having to pass by abandoned sweet treats, salty snacks, and dropped-off goodies- especially during the holidays. You might be able to relate to this situation in your workplace or office setting. In fact, an abundance of unhealthy food in the workplace can be a major obstacle to healthy eating goals, not to mention tanking productivity.

So, what to do? Here’s a simple plan to overcome the office munchies, and get your co-workers to help you rally around a healthier food plan:

Step 1: Recruit. Find allies at work who feel the similarly and are willing to offer support and jump into a healthy eating plan. This also provides accountability; when the next box of doughnuts arrives, go for a walk with your buddy.

Step 2: Set a timeline. Nobody likes the sound of “No more treats- EVER again.” Create a realistic goal for a healthy eating plan, preferably at least a couple of weeks. Who know’s what will happen if you’re feeling healthier and more energized at the end of your goal? Staying on track is easier than starting out.

Step 3: Make it fun. Swap recipes, take turns bringing in HEALTHY snacks and treats, and create new, healthy indulgences.

The holidays are over, and many are ready for a change. Use this time to start a new tradition in your workplace!

Next week we’ll be sharing some healthy workplace eating ideas!
