What is Yoga?

Yoga is often interpreted as “union”or a joining of the mind, body and spirit. At the Peak you will practice asana, which is a program of physical postures designed to purify the body and provide physical strength and fitness.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise that incorporates modern exercise science and rehabilitation principles, eliminating risky movements while emphasizing neutral alignment, core stability and mobility. Pilates is a method of body condition with strengthening and stretching exercises developed over 90 years ago by Joseph Pilates.

Benefits: Longer, leaner muscles, improves postural problems, increase core strength & stability, helps prevent injury, easy on joints, improves performance in sports, balances strength and flexibility, heightens body awareness, can be customized for all levels—sounds like a good match for you? Basic Level I Yoga: If you’ve never done Yoga, this class will work for you! Basic level moves that you can expand on if you like, so come even if you have Yoga experience and you, too, will be challenged.

Gumbies Level II Yoga: An eclectic blend of Yoga styles are presented.  Standing, balancing, forward bends, inversions, and back bends are practiced.—Basic Level I required first.

Elemental Yoga: An intermediate/advanced yoga class for fitness-minded participants, with challenges inspired by the elements of fire (core strengthening) mental (stamina) wood (individual alignment) earth (focused balances) and water (flowing movement).

Restorative Yoga: This class helps relieve the effects of chronic stress by moving the spine in all directions, reversing the effects of gravity, and soothing the organs.   Props are used to provide support and ease in the postures.  This class is strongly encouraged for everyone, especially those suffering from chronic pain and arthritis.

Yogalates:  Maybe you want a fresh challenge– get the best of both worlds in one class!  Yogalates is a combo of Pilates & Yoga.  -Not for beginning Pilates or Yoga students.

Beginning T’ai Chi:  This is a beginner level Yang style short form T’ai Chi Class.  T’ai Chi has been proven to have many health benefits including asthma, poor digestion, sleeplessness, high blood pressure, stress, fatigue, poor balance, and a multitude of other ailments resulting from our modern, multi-tasking lifestyle.  Minimal modifications can be made to the movements so they work for everyone.

Intro to Pilates: This class teaches the basics of  Pilates that are needed to execute the movements with control.

Level I Pilates: This class is more advanced.  Begin to incorporate a variety of exercises with control, breath, concentration and centering.  Learn how to initiate energy from the “powerhouse” or abdomen, low back, hips and buttocks.  Intro to Pilates required before Level 1.
